Award Programs

Each year the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) has the opportunity to lead or participate in programs that recognize the state’s outstanding public school students and staff. DDOE is proud of the strong programs our public schools offer and excited for the ways we can continue to honor the members of this community.

The following programs honor Delaware school staff:

Delaware State Teacher of the Year

Each year the program honors a Delaware teacher who exemplifies fine teaching in the state. This program is administered by the DDOE.

Educational Support Professional of the Year

Each year the program recognizes outstanding service by school employees who provide direct or indirect services to students and their families. This program is administered by the DDOE.

Behavioral Health Professional of the Year

This program recognizes outstanding service by school employees who are health care practitioners or human service providers who improve mental health. This program is administered by the DDOE.

Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Awarded by the White House each year, this is the highest recognition a K-12 mathematics or science teacher can receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.

The following programs honor Delaware public schools:

Green Ribbon Schools

This award recognizes schools, districts, and institutes of higher education that reduce environmental impact and costs; improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff; and provide effective environmental and sustainability education.

Blue Ribbon Schools

This recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

National ESEA Distinguished Schools

Recognizes superior, federally funded school programs.

Recognition Schools

Recognizes school programs in three areas: Exceptional student performance, closing the achievement gap, and excellence in serving special populations. Includes School of Continued Excellence award.

The following program honors Delaware students:

Secretary of Education Scholars

Each year Delaware’s Secretary of Education honors select students from the current graduating class for their exemplary work ethic, dedication and accomplishments both in and out of the classroom. This program is administered by the DDOE.
