Delaware standards for social studies set end-of-year expectations for each grade as students progress towards college and career readiness expectations. In Delaware, social studies standards are organized in the following areas:
Student outcomes
Standards are cumulative, which means that each year students build off previous learning to become college and career ready by the end of high school. They emphasize required achievements while individual districts and charters determine how these goals are met.
Social studies standards ensure students:
- Address citizenship education within the context of political systems.
- Demonstrate how individuals and societies produce, allocate, distribute, and expend resources.
- Possess a knowledge of geography and an ability to apply a geographical perspective to life situations.
- Understand events and phenomena in terms of when they occur and how individuals/societies have changed and interacted over time.
