The Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) oversees adult basic education (ABE) classes throughout the state. These classes provide adult learners with skills that apply to everyday life. ABE classes include:
- Basic education in reading, math, and writing
- Computer literacy
- Life skills development
- English language oral proficiency for English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) classes
- Prepare for the GED® exam
Classes take place in locations that are accessible to adult learners, including libraries, public housing facilities, community service centers, schools, businesses, community colleges and the Internet.

GED Testing
Delaware students can earn a high school equivalency (HSE) diploma by passing the computer-based GED® exam. GED testing costs $30 per test ($120 total) and must be done at one of the official Delaware GED testing centers listed below. Online GED testing is not available.
The GED exam includes four individual tests in math, science, social studies, and literacy. Free GED preparation classes are available through ABE programs and at GED testing centers. Students do not need to complete a GED preparation class to take the GED exam, though it is highly recommended.
