- Families must pre-register each incoming student at their assigned Resident School District. Search to find feeder district/school , view the District’s website for specific instructions on how & where to complete pre-registration.
- Apply for lottery via the state’s Choice application system. Open Enrollment is between the first Monday of November and the second Wednesday of January each year.
- Lottery status notifications are emailed no later than February 29th each year.

What does the registration process look like?
- Parents seeking application for their child to attend a Delaware public school must be a Delaware resident.
- A child must be age 5 on or before August 31 of the respective year for application and admission to kindergarten in a Delaware public school (Pursuant to 14 Del.C. § 2702(b) )
- Any student not currently registered in a public school in the State of Delaware should pre-register first in their School of Residence before submitting an application. [ Find your School of Residence ].
- Applications may be submitted online at www.schoolchoicede.org during the annual open enrollment process on or after the first Monday in November and on or before the second Wednesday in January of the school year proceeding enrollment. An application for kindergarten may be submitted up until the first day of the school year for enrollment; however, only those completed applications received by the second Wednesday in January deadline will be included in the school’s lottery process.
- The school’s board shall take action to approve or disapprove an application for admission no later than the last day of February of the school year proceeding enrollment for those applications included in the lottery process, and no later than June 15 of the school year proceeding enrollment to approve or disapprove an application for admission to kindergarten received after the deadline and lottery process to fill remaining availability.
- The school’s board shall inform the parent of their action, and the parent shall notify the school of their decision to accept or decline no later than the third Friday in March of the school year proceeding enrollment through their www.schoolchoicede.org account or by contacting the school office at (302) 653-6276.
