Delaware public schools provide Kindergarten through Grade 12 education and include traditional districts, vocational-technical districts and charter schools. Review the topics below to learn more about enrolling in a public school.

Parents and/or guardians must determine their student’s school of residence in order to begin the enrollment process.
A District or School of Residence is the district or school a student is assigned to/attends based on the student’s home address.
Use our interactive school locator map to find and verify your school of residence. This map also allows residents to find school districts, schools, and charter schools based on location.
Registration
You can register your student online! Whether you want to enroll your student in their school of residence or choice into a different school or charter, you will need to complete the standard online registration form with your district of residence.
You will need the following items to register your student in their school of residence:
- Student’s Birth Certificate
- Proof of Residency
- Photo ID of Parent/Guardian
- Custody Documentation (if applicable)
- Health Records (as required in Delaware Education Health and Safety Regulations):
- Proof of Immunizations
- Health Examinations and Screenings
- Proof of a Physical Exam (within the last two years)
- Proof of TB Screening
- Proof of Lead Test (if applicable)
- Previous Student Records (if applicable)
- Report Card
- Transcripts
- Withdrawal Sheet
- Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- 504 Plan
When Can I Register my Student? When is my student Enrolled?
Starting in June 2024, the Department of Education began transitioning to a new enrollment system. Please visit the following school districts to register using the new system: Milford, Seaford, Smyrna and Woodbridge. For the remaining districts, please use the registration links below.
Registration for the 2024 – 2025 school year is still open.
Register for the 2025 – 2026 school year using the links below. Please note: Though you are registering your child now for the 2025 – 2026 school year, your child will not be enrolled as a student until Summer 2025.
Entering Kindergarten
Families should begin preparing their children to register for kindergarten the winter before kindergarten begins. In Delaware, students must be five-years-old by August 31 of the current school year to attend kindergarten. Registering your student for Kindergarten following the same steps found in Registration above.

School Choice
Families must first register their student in their school of residence if not already registered in a Delaware public school and then must complete a standard choice application form during the school choice application window. Please note, applying for choice does not mean your student is guaranteed enrollment.
