The State of Delaware has established specific partnerships with out-of-state institutions that offer specialty graduate degrees not available at our state institutions. These partnerships are established to support Delaware residents in obtaining high-quality education in specific fields of study.

Delaware Institute of Medical Education and Research (DIMER)

Created in 1969 as an alternative to a state-supported medical school, DIMER provides an opportunity for Delaware residents to obtain a high-quality medical education.

  • Through DIMER, Delaware has a relationship with Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) of Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia, PA, and Phildelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) resulting in SKMC and PCOM functioning as Delaware’s medical schools.
  • Eligible applicants must be legal residents of the State of Delaware and meet the premedical academic requirements of the preferred medical college; SKMC or PCOM. Bachelor’s degrees from any accredited college or university in the United States are accpeted.

Each year twenty (20) admission slots at Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) and ten (10) admission slots at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) are reserved for first year applicants from Delaware, which has increased the odds of acceptance for students from the First State.

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) manages this program, please visit DHSS for more information.

Delaware Institute for Dental Education Research (DIDER)

Created in 1981, DIDER has been focused on ways to increase the number of dentists in Delaware and expand access to low income uninsured patients.

  • DIDER provides Delaware residents with an opportunity to receive quality education and training at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.
  • Delaware residents are eligible to participate regardless of the location of their undergraduate educational institution.
  • Student’s must meet Temple University’s acadenuc reqirements and this program does not guarantee admittance.  All Delawareans who are accepted and choose to attend Temple will be automatically admitted to the DIDER program.
  • Each year five (5) admission slots are reserved for applicants from Delaware at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry which has increased the odds of acceptance for students from the First State.
  • The partnership with Temple University also promotes opportunities for participating dental students to complete externship and residency training programs at facilities in Delaware.

The Delaware Health Care Commission (DHCC) manages this program, please visit DHCC for more information.
