Delaware Public Schools include 16 geographically defined districts, 3 vocational-technical high schools (one in each county), and charter schools. Delaware charter schools are public schools meant to provide an alternative to Delaware’s 19 traditional school districts. As the authorizer for Delaware’s charter schools, the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) is responsible for approving, modifying, renewing, and closing charter schools, as well as monitoring and reporting as outlined in Delaware Code.
