The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the Nations Report Card, is a U.S. Department of Education program that provides information on state and national student achievement as well as trend data over time. NAEP conducts:
- State assessments in grades 4 and 8
- National assessments in grades 4, 8 and 12
- Long-term trend assessments every four years for ages 9, 13, and 17
NAEP randomly selects schools and students to assess. Individual student and school results are not provided. Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, schools receiving Title I federal funds (to aid educationally disadvantaged students) must participate in NAEP reading and mathematics assessments at grades four and eight.
