Emily Cunningham

Emily Cunningham is the department’s Chief of Staff, working across the department to help achieve its goals. She also serves as the department’s legislative liaison. She oversees education policy, legislation and regulation work as well as communications and human resources for the department.

Most recently, Emily served as deputy chief of staff for Attorney General Matt Denn as well as chief of staff in Lt. Governor Denn’s office. A former press secretary for U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, she also has past experience in communications and program roles at the Blood Bank of Delmarva and CHILD, Inc.

Outside of work, Emily is an active volunteer, serving on the Ronald McDonald Advisory and the Brandywine Valley SPCA Boards. She also is a mentor in the Cape Henlopen School District after mentoring for a decade in Capital School District, where she was honored as Mentor of the Year in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

She grew up in Wilmington and attended schools in the Brandywine School District. She received her BA in English Literature from Gettysburg College. She lives with her family in Rehoboth Beach.
