Girls Wrestling

On March 12, 2026, the DIAA Board of Directors unanimously approved Girls Wrestling as a Level 3 sanctioned championship sport, beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. The vote, which took place during the Board of Directors meeting that day, marks a significant milestone in the continued growth and support of interscholastic athletics in Delaware.

Girls Wrestling has seen increasing participation and interest across DIAA member schools in recent years. The move to sanction the sport at the championship level reflects DIAA’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and providing equitable access for student-athletes statewide.

“Girls wrestling has built incredible momentum in recent years, and the Board’s decision to propel it to a Level 3 sport is a direct result of that passion and growth,” said Executive Director, David L. Baylor. “We’re excited to continue to support the sport and celebrate these student-athletes on the championship stage.”

As a Level 3 sanctioned sport, Girls Wrestling will now include an officially recognized DIAA state championship, along with formalized structures for competition, championship events, and continued development of the sport. Additional details regarding the 2026–2027 Girls Wrestling season, including championship format and key dates, will be shared in the coming months.
