DIAA Designates Officials Appreciation Weeks

Fall Sport Officials Appreciation Week starts October 24th, 2021

(Dover, DE) October 23, 2021 – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) is celebrating and recognizing DIAA registered officials with a series of appreciation weeks throughout the school year.  The first appreciation week for fall officials is October 24-30, 2021.   The appreciation weeks are meant to thank and bring attention to the hard work and dedication of DIAA’s registered sport officials.

Updates from October 14, 2021 Meeting 

(Dover, DE) October 19, 2021 – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Board of Directors convened last Thursday for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.  Topics of discussion included updates from Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), a proposal from the Delaware Association of Athletic Directors (DAAD) for continuing athletic directors’ education, impacts to DIAA football and volleyball championship venues due to COVID-19, DIAA committee and NFHS updates and the Executive Director’s report.

Updates from September 9, 2021 Meeting 

(Dover, DE) September 10, 2021 The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Board of Directors convened yesterday for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.  Topics of discussion included updates from Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), DIAA committee membership updates, updates regarding the DIAA Transgender Policy sub-committee, and updated fall sport tournament eligibility requirements.

DIAA Football Championship Expands from Two to Three Divisions

Football Championship Format Changes for First Time in 46 Years 

(Dover, DE) September 2, 2021- The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Football State Championship will change for the first time in 46 years, expanding from a two-division format to a three-tier classification.  The reclassification’s main goals are safety, level competition, and better overall play.  Since 1975, the DIAA Football State Championship has crowned champions in Division 1 and Division 2.  From 1971-1974, the DIAA Football State Championship was only one division.  In 2021, the DIAA Football State Championship will crown three classified state champions; 1A, […]

(Dover, DE) August 20, 2021 The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Board of Directors convened yesterday for a meeting as a follow up to its August 12th regularly scheduled board meeting.  Topics of discussion included an update from Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), discussion on the creation of an  emergency regulation for the upcoming sports seasons, recommendations of sport specific guidance, determination of fall sports tournaments, and executive director updates.

DIAA Announces 2020-21 Dale Farmer State Champions in Sportsmanship Winners

Dover, DE (August 17, 2021) – Eleven (11) Delaware schools are being honored for sportsmanship this week by the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA).

The Dale Farmer State Champions in Sportsmanship award is presented annually to schools that have demonstrated a strong school community commitment to the educational nature of interscholastic athletics.  The 2020 – 2021 Dale Farmer award goes to the following schools:

Brandywine High School (5)

Caesar Rodney High School (11)

Charter School of Wilmington (8)

Conrad School of Science (12)

Middletown High School (5)
