Our Mission and Impact
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) was established in 2002 after operating as Delaware Association of Secondary Administrators (DASA) and Delaware Secondary School Athletic Association (DSSAA). The association receives its authority by the General Assembly and oversees a membership of 118 schools (63 high schools and 55 middle schools).
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) is proud to serve its member schools by establishing policies, adopting rules, and providing guidance that:
- Emphasize the Educational Values of Athletics – DIAA believes interscholastic athletics are an extension of the classroom, teaching students essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and resilience.
- Promote Safe and Sportsmanlike Competition – Student-athlete safety and fair play are at the core of every DIAA policy. By fostering an environment of respect and integrity, we ensure that all participants can compete with confidence and dignity.
- Provide Uniform Standards Across All Levels – From middle school to high school, DIAA establishes consistent standards that create a level playing field and ensure equity in every aspect of competition.
Through the collaborative efforts of its member schools, DIAA has enabled thousands of middle and high school students to participate in athletic programs on a fair, safe, and equitable basis. These programs not only encourage physical development but also cultivate important educational and personal benefits, helping students grow into responsible, confident, and community-minded individuals.
At DIAA, we are committed to Education Through Athletics—ensuring that every student-athlete experiences the full value of interscholastic competition while upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, safety, and fairness.
