Student Leadership and Awards

DIAA is proud to provide leadership awards and development opportunities to student athletes during the year.
 
DIAA provides, upon request, “scholar-athlete” certificates for high school students who earn a varsity letter and maintain a 3.5 GPA during the competitive season. Certificates are also provided to middle school students who participate on an interscholastic team and maintain a grade of “B” or better in all subjects during the competitive season.

Scholar Athlete Awards

The DIAA Scholar Athlete Awards presented by Crown Newark is awarded during every DIAA sponsored championship.  Each school submits the award winner per event of the championship that the participating team competes in.  Student athlete award winners are announced before the event begins and recognized for their success in the classroom and their sport.

Harry Roberts Senior Scholar Athlete Awards

DIAA sponsors the annual Harry Roberts Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards. Member schools can select one male candidate and one female candidate who can apply for the awards. Members of the Sportsmanship Committee then review the applications and select a male and a female winner who receive a plaque and a $2,000 scholarship to the post-secondary institution of their choice.  Second and third place awards are also selected with the runner-up award receiving a plaque and a $1,500 scholarship to the post-secondary institution of their choice and a third place winner who receives a $1,000 scholarship to the post-secondary of their choice.

Dale Farmer State Champions in Sportsmanship

The Dale Farmer State Champions in Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to schools that have demonstrated a strong school community commitment to the educational nature of interscholastic athletics. DIAA member schools compete against a set of ten standards that measure the school community’s commitment to the educational nature of interscholastic athletics.

Student Leadership Conference

Traditionally, DIAA has sponsored the attendance of 40 student delegates and 8 adult delegates to the Annual DIAA Student Leadership Conference each year.

A Spotlight on Sportsmanship

 
The Delaware Plays Fair initiative, in partnership with the DIAA Sportsmanship Committee, is proud to recognize student-athletes who went above and beyond to demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship throughout the winter season.
 
From acts of kindness to moments of leadership and respect for opponents, these students set the standard for what high school athletics should represent.
