Dover, DE – March 27, 2026 – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) is proud to announce that the DIAA Board of Directors has unanimously approved Girls Wrestling as a Level 3 sanctioned championship sport, beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
The vote took place during the Board of Directors meeting on March 12, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth and support of interscholastic athletics in Delaware.
Girls Wrestling has seen increasing participation and interest across DIAA member schools in recent years. The move to sanction the sport at the championship level reflects DIAA’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and providing equitable access for student-athletes statewide.
“Girls wrestling has built incredible momentum in recent years, and the Board’s decision to propel it to a Level 3 sport is a direct result of that passion and growth,” said Executive Director, David L. Baylor. “We’re excited to continue to support the sport and celebrate these student-athletes on the championship stage.”
As a Level 3 sanctioned sport, Girls Wrestling will now include an officially recognized DIAA state championship, along with formalized structures for competition, championship events, and continued development of the sport.
