Dover, DE – September 8, 2025 – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) has established a new Competition Committee to promote fair, equitable, and competitive play across all middle and high school sports in Delaware.
On June 12, 2025, the DIAA Board of Directors approved the formation of the committee and appointed its members. The committee held its first meeting on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and will continue to meet regularly on the third Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted.
The Competition Committee will:
- Develop policies and monitor data to maintain competitive balance, using measurable criteria and relevant factors to identify potential imbalances.
- Review tournament policies, formats, and rule changes for fairness and consistency.
- Set eligibility requirements for teams and individual participants.
- Collaborate with sport committees, member schools and stakeholders to gather input and build consensus.
- Provide recommendations to the DIAA Board on tournament structures, eligibility standards, and competitive balance.
- Serve as an advisory body for appeals or disputes related to competitive balance or tournament placement.
“I want to thank the DIAA Board of Directors for their support in establishing the Competition Committee,” said David L. Baylor, DIAA Executive Director. “This group brings together experts from across athletics and education to provide guidance that ensures equitable opportunities and strengthens competitive balance for all student-athletes. Their work helps create a fair and positive experience for students while supporting their growth both in athletics and beyond.”
