NFHS Rule Changes Affecting Risk 1982-2019

The NFHS is a leader in providing educational materials, up-to-date rules books and position statements on subjects relevant to the health and welfare of students engaging in interscholastic activities. From its inception, the NFHS Sports Medicine Advisory Committee

has dealt with a wide range of health and safety topics related to interscholastic sports participation. While the risk of mild and even severe injuries cannot be eliminated from athletics, risks may be minimized through a variety of interventions. Parents, students, physicians, coaches, athletic trainers and administrators must all be cognizant of their respective roles in minimizing risk.

In addition to regular review and as-needed revisions to the Sports Medicine Handbook, the NFHS will continue its timely dissemination of relevant health and risk minimization information to member state associations and institutions through press releases, mailings, position statements and regular publications.
