Dover, DE (March 6, 2021) – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) concluded the 2021 Individual Wrestling Championship on Wednesday at Cape Henlopen High School. Below are the Final Placements and Results from the medal rounds.
The Division I Champion was Cape Henlopen and the runner up was Salesianum. This was Cape Henlopen’s first Division I Wrestling title. The Division II Champion was Caravel Academy and the runner up was Delaware Military Academy. Caravel had 5 State Champions and 3 finalists. Due to COVID-19, a Dual Team Championship was not held this season, so team titles were decided by points scored by each individual wrestler. The usual two day tournament was spaced over three days this year with the preliminary rounds being held last weekend, and the semifinals and finals were held on Wednesday.

Tournament highlights:
In the history of the tournament, there have been only 35 3x state champions. This year four more wrestlers put themselves into this elite category.
Smyrna’s Joey Natarcola and Gabe Giampietro, Alex Poore (Caravel), and Kevin Hudson (Caesar Rodney) all became the 3x State Champions.
Natarcola was also named the meet’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Luke Poore, Ethan Gray, and Danny Stradley all of Caravel and Jack Thode (Milford) all became 2x State Champions.
