DIAA Partners with Delaware State University to Host Class 3A Football, Unified Football and Field Hockey Championships

Dover, DE September 13, 2024 The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Delaware State University (DSU) to host the 2024 DIAA Class 3A and Unified High School Football Championships, as well as the Field Hockey Championships. These events will take place this fall at DSU’s athletic facilities.

The partnership marks an exciting opportunity to provide DIAA student-athletes with a first-class championship experience at one of Delaware’s leading higher education institutions. The DIAA Class 3A Football Championship will showcase the state’s top-tier division, while the Unified High School Football Championship will highlight the incredible impact of inclusive sports, bringing together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. Additionally, the DIAA Field Hockey Championships will celebrate the state’s top teams in a sport that continues to grow in participation and popularity across Delaware.

David Baylor, Executive Director of the DIAA, commented, “We are excited to collaborate with Delaware State University, an institution that shares our commitment to providing student-athletes with opportunities to shine in a supportive and competitive environment. DSU’s facilities and resources will elevate our championships, making them memorable experiences for all involved.”

DSU President, Dr. Tony Allen, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Signing this agreement is another important moment in the university’s growth and our commitment to prospective students and their families up and down the state. Having high school playoffs and championships on our campuses allows us to showcase the University, build an even stronger case for our increasing academic profile, and accelerate the athletic transformation journey we began a few years ago. With the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) by our side, there are enormous opportunities to anchor Delaware Sports in the capital city.”

The championship events will feature competitive matchups in front of large crowds, highlighting the talent and dedication of Delaware’s student-athletes, while giving participants the opportunity to compete in a collegiate setting.

More event information will be released later this fall on the DIAA website.
