Historic 2021 DIAA Football Champions Crowned

Dover, DE (December 14, 2021)  – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Football Championships were held this past Saturday at the University of Delaware.  For the first time in 46 years, the DIAA Football Championship expanded from a two-division format to a three-tier classification.  Four football state champions were crowned on Saturday with Class 1A, 2A, 3A, and unified flag football all taking home state titles.
Class Champions:
1A:  #1 Laurel def. #2 St. Elizabeth, 28-14.  The Laurel Bulldogs won their 4th football championship in school history and first state title since 1991.
2A:  #1 Archmere def. #2 Woodbridge, 27-0.  Archmere finished as state title runner up in 2020 and they win their first title since 1982.  This is Archmere’s 4th football championship in school history.
3A:  #2 Middletown def. #1 Smyrna, 28-22.  This is Middletown’s first state football title since last winning in 2012, and the 8th football state championship in school history dating back to 1978.
Unified Flag Football:  #2 Dover def. #1 Smyrna, 26-18 to win their 3rd straight unified flag football state title.  Dover avenged their only loss of the season which was to the Smyrna Eagles.
