DIAA Announces 2019 Harry Roberts Senior Scholar Athlete Award Winners
Dover, DE (May 17, 2019) – The DIAA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 DIAA/Harry Roberts Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards. The award is named in recognition and memory of Dr. Harry Roberts, former superintendent of the Caesar Rodney School District who served DIAA on several committees, most notably as chair of the DIAA Sportsmanship Committee for many years.
Speaking on behalf of the selection committee, DIAA Coordinator of Interscholastic Athletics Donna Polk said, “As someone new to the DIAA Staff, I am continually impressed by the accomplishments of our student-athletes. The quality of candidates for these awards exemplified the mission of our member schools in teaching through athletics. Their contributions and achievements in their schools, on the playing fields and in the community were outstanding.”
The awards are presented annually by DIAA based on a student’s academic, athletic and leadership accomplishments.
The 2018-2019 winners are:
Females
First ($2,000) Alia Marshall, Cape Henlopen
Second ($1500) Katherine Hally, Padua Academy
Third ($1000) Gabriela Hunt, Sanford School
Males
First ($2,000) Brendan Malone, Wilmington Christian
Second ($1500) Conor Nisbet, Wilmington Friends
Third ($1000) Beau Neff, Tatnall
In the history of the awards there have been 113 scholarship recipients, from 33 different member schools with the total amount of money awarded being more than $150,000.
