Nomination Statement
Daughter of Francisco and Nancy Mejia of New Castle, Naomi Mejia’s character exemplifies excellence and determination. Through life’s trials, Naomi chose to overcome and succeed on the highest level. Naomi is ranked first in her class with a 4.2 GPA and is enrolled in college-level courses. She also holds a co-op position at the Family Court in Wilmington. Naomi’s kind heart will serve her well as she pursues a nursing degree at Widener University with goals of a career as a pediatric nurse."
“I can still hear the cries of my mother as she curled herself up on the bedroom floor with ripped-up medical bills laying around, and those of my father who would return home with stitches as a result of an injury at work. Days like those brought out hope in the once lifeless soul of mine, further dedicating the majority of my life to my education in order to liberate myself and my family from the horrors of being poor.”
