Reading Assist provides one-on-one reading instruction for Delaware K-3 students.

About our organization

We recruit, train, and embed tutors – known as Reading Assist Fellows – willing to provide our accredited, 1:1 intervention program to struggling readers. We offer school-year, summer, and afterschool tutoring services. Our students reach benchmarks by the end of the school year and regularly outpace expected grade-level progress. Reading Assist offers certification to teachers, reading specialists, and other educators who wish to increase their understanding and knowledge of the science of reading.

Service description

The hallmarks of poor readers are well known, weakness in phonemic awareness, inefficient decoding skills, inaccurate spelling and problems with language processing. Reading Assist’s accredited intensive course is designed to develop practitioners in structured literacy instruction and teach necessary skills to plan and deliver effective instruction to struggling readers.

Delivery method

We offer an intensive three to four week virtual, in-person or hybrid training that can be paired with a year long practicum.

Service description

Reading Assist provides 1:1 reading daily instruction for K-3 students in the lowest 10% for reading proficiency. We recruit, train, and embed AmeriCorps members – known as Reading Assist Fellows – willing to commit a school year of service to provide our accredited, 1:1 high dosage tutoring program

Delivery method

Reading Assist provides daily 1:1 tutoring for 30 to 40 minutes. We provide phonics- based explicit, sequential, multisensory instruction.
