Nomination Statement
Daughter of Todd and Barbara Dukes, Layla ranks second in her graduating class with a 4.553 GPA. She excels academically, athletically, and in service. Through Best Buddies of Delaware, she promotes inclusion and builds meaningful relationships. As vice president of Middletown High School’s Athletic Committee, Layla has organized the National Girls and Women in Sports Day event for the past two years in the Appoquinimink School District. Her participation in the Delaware State Police Summer Cohort Internship reflects her interest in criminal justice. Layla will attend Kutztown University to play field hockey and study political science.
“The community I surround myself with has influenced me to become ambitious. My encouraging family motivates me to be the best that I can be. My passionate teachers inspire me to push my limits learning new subjects. My coaches have shown me anything is possible with continuous effort. Through volunteering, I have learned leadership skills that have developed me into a confident person. I am thankful for all of the people who have shaped me into who I am today.”
