Urooj Ahmed

William Penn High School

Nomination Statement

“For four years, I have been blessed to create change in my community. Through organizations like Dual School, I was motivated to initiate Every Step Forward which helped Syrian refugees obtain food and water during the month of Ramadan. In addition, I have taken roles such as Senior class treasurer and President of Colonials Crushing Cancer. I’ve had the pleasure of playing varsity tennis for three years as well as being a member of National Honors Society, Student Council, and Science Olympiad. I plan to use these experiences to guide my pursuit of biology whilst at the University of Virginia.”

“For me, my biggest influence has been my family. Their sacrifices and persistence have shaped who I am today. While I cannot stress enough how much they have directly impacted my aspirations, I must also mention my source of inspiration being among the millions of other little girls like me dreaming of creating change. My actions and motives today are representative of not only me but tons of other young, Muslim, Pakistani, hijabi women in the world.”
