The AIM Institute for Learning & Research equips educators and leaders with evidence-based training grounded in the Science of Reading. As an approved professional learning provider in Delaware, AIM delivers scalable, research-backed solutions designed by educators and informed by leading literacy experts. Our proven model supports sustained implementation, builds school and district capacity, and drives systems-level change-empowering partners to turn research into real results for all learners.

About Our Team

AIM Institute currently has 10 full-time facilitators/coaches on staff, and we employ an additional 75, 1099 contracted facilitators. Our team is diverse, as 12% of our staff come from diverse backgrounds or underserved populations.

Service Overview

  • Pathways to Proficient Reading (grades K-3) – 50 Hours Asynchronous with synchronous community of practice sessions (six one-hour sessions) or two in-person sessions.
  • Pathways to Proficient Reading Secondary (grades 4-12) – 50 Hours Asynchronous with synchronous community of practice sessions (six one-hour sessions) or two in-person sessions.
  • Pathways to Literacy Leadership (school administrators) – 30 Hours Asynchronous with synchronous community or practice sessions (four 90-minute sessions) or two in-person sessions.
  • Pathways to Structured Literacy – 30 Hours Asynchronous with synchronous community of practice sessions (four one-hour sessions) or two in-person sessions.
  • Pathways to Proficient Writing – 30 Hours Asynchronous with synchronous community of practice sessions (four one-hour sessions) or two in-person sessions.
  • Specialized Reading Knowledge: English Learners – Prerequisite: must have at least 3 hours of Reading training before taking this course. 7 Hours asynchronous with or without three additional one-hour community of practice sessions.
  • Early Reading Success – For teachers in PK3, PK4, or Kindergarten. 20 Hours asynchronous with three one-hour community of practice sessions.
  • Pathways Practicum – Prerequisite: must take Pathways to Proficient Reading and Pathways to Structured Literacy before enrolling

Building District Capacity

AIM Institute builds district-wide capacity through a tiered, collaborative model. We engage district and school leaders in data-driven planning, provide job-embedded coaching for building leaders, and deliver research-based professional learning to teachers. Our approach centers on aligning instructional practices with the science of reading, ensuring consistency across classrooms and leadership levels. By fostering shared language, leadership engagement, and sustainability planning, we help districts build internal expertise and long-term impact.

Our professional learning supports educators in using evidence-based literacy practices that benefit all learners, including multilingual students and those with language-based disabilities. We build educator capacity by delivering high-quality, culturally responsive professional development. Our services emphasize inclusive access to grade-level content and are aligned with high-quality instructional materials and curriculum implementation, ensuring all students receive the instruction they need to thrive.

Science of Reading: Competency Based Learning

Assessments are embedded throughout the course, including:

  • 20-question untimed Knowledge Inventory (pre-assessment) following the course overview but preceding Tool 1 content
  • 5-question untimed tests following Part 1 of each tool’s content (10 total)
  • 10-question untimed tests following Part 2 of each tool’s content (10 total)
  • 20-question untimed Knowledge Inventory (post-assessment) following completion of all course content.
  • Participants must score at least 80 percent on each assessment to unlock content for the next Part or Tool in the course.

Science of Reading: Learning During School Day

As an asynchronous course, participants can access Top 10 Tools whenever and wherever is convenient, including during the contractual school day.
