
{"id":8340,"date":"2022-02-14T16:10:08","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T21:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/education.delaware.gov\/diaa\/?p=8340"},"modified":"2022-02-14T16:10:08","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T21:10:08","slug":"diaa-2022-winter-championships-site-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/education.delaware.gov\/diaa\/2022\/02\/14\/diaa-2022-winter-championships-site-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"DIAA 2022 Winter Championships Site Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Dover, DE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (February 14, 2022) \u2013 Sites have been announced for the upcoming Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) winter sport championships for indoor track, individual wrestling, swimming and diving, boys and girls basketball and unified basketball.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><b>DIAA Indoor Track Championship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be held this Saturday, February 19, 2022 at University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).\u00a0 The 2021 indoor track championship was held at Dover High School as a polar bear meet, due to the COVID-19 health pandemic.\u00a0 Originally, the 2022 DIAA indoor track championship was planned to return to Prince George\u2019s Sports &amp; Learning Complex (Landover, MD) for the first time since 2020, but in December 2021, DIAA was made aware that the facility would no longer be available to host track meets.\u00a0 DIAA diligently sought adequate venues for the 2022 indoor track championship meet that met DIAA\u2019s requirements for hosting.\u00a0 Facilities with restrictive COVID-19 policies were eliminated as possible venues, while other inhibitive factors such as travel distance and available meet dates narrowed the list of possible venues considerably.\u00a0 The 2022 indoor track championship at UMES will be a no spectator event due to a lack of spectator seating and other facility occupancy restrictions that the meet will be held under.\u00a0 The DIAA Track Committee opted to hold the event at an indoor track, rather than host another \u201cpolar bear\u201d meet which could prove risky to rely on favorable and safe outdoor conditions in February.\u00a0 The DIAA 2022 Indoor Track Championship meet will be streamed live on NFHSNetwork &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfhsnetwork.com\/associations\/diaa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">link to view.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more meet information, visit the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/education.delaware.gov\/diaa\/sport_championships\/winter_sports\/indoor_track_and_field\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DIAA Indoor Track page.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><b>DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will return to the University of Delaware for the first time since 2020.\u00a0 The 2021 championship meet was held at Sussex Academy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2022 DIAA Swimming and Diving Meet Schedule:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuesday, February 22 &#8211; 7:00pm Diving Preliminaries (McKean HS)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wednesday, February 23 &#8211; 6:00pm Boys Swimming Preliminaries\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thursday, February 24 &#8211; 6:00pm Girls Swimming Preliminaries<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Saturday, February 26 &#8211; 11:00am Boys Swimming and Diving Finals, 6:00pm\u00a0 Girls Swimming and Diving Finals<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more meet information, visit the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/education.delaware.gov\/diaa\/sport_championships\/winter_sports\/swimming_and_diving\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DIAA Swimming and Diving page.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Due to University of Delaware\u2019s host facility guidelines, each student-athlete meet entrant will be permitted two (2) spectators.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spectators need to be aware of the University of Delaware\u2019s swimming spectator event policies and procedures which are listed in their<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/bluehens.com\/sports\/2021\/9\/26\/delaware-athletics-health-and-safety-attendance-guidelines.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">entirety here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All attendees at University of Delaware\u2019s athletic events ages 12 and older, must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of the event. \u201cFull vaccination\u201d means that guests have received their final COVID-19 vaccine dose at least 14 days in advance of the day of the game. Authentic proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test will be accepted as long as the test was taken within 72 hours of the day of the game through a medical or accredited company; please note that \u201cat home tests\u201d will not be accepted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The University of Delaware has developed a digital system to allow external visitors to upload their COVID-19 vaccination or negative PCR COVID-19 test results before attending a UD-sponsored event. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/covidcheck.udel.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visitor Events Health Pass<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">replaces the need for visitors to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records when entering an event. The pass is integrated with the online<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/covidcheck.udel.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UD Daily Health Check<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To expedite event entry, fans should visit<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/covidcheck.udel.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">covidcheck.udel.edu<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in advance of event day and upload your proof of vaccine or negative test to the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/covidcheck.udel.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visitor Events Health Pass<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fill out the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/covidcheck.udel.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UD Daily Health Check<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on the day of the game, and show your green event ticket at the gate for entry. Fans wishing to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records can still do so, in combination with a green check mark from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bluehens.com\/sports\/2021\/9\/26\/covidcheck.udel.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UD Daily Health Check, <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for entry at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tickets for each swimming session will cost $10.00.\u00a0 The meet will be livestreamed on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfhsnetwork.com\/associations\/diaa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NFHSNetwork for fans to watch live.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><b>DIAA 2022 Individual Wrestling Championship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be held on February 25-26 at Cape Henlopen High School.\u00a0 Session One Preliminary Round will begin on Friday, February 25 at 4pm.\u00a0 The second consolation round will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, February 26.\u00a0 The fifth place round will begin at 5:00pm on Saturday, February 26 with the championship finals to follow.\u00a0 A full championship schedule can be found <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fvacg197xz747ur7h3vi44up-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/diaa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/2022-Individual-Wrestling-Championship-Schedule.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The DIAA Wrestling Committee will meet on Sunday February 20th to seed the championship and the brackets will be released.\u00a0 The brackets and other championship information will be posted on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/education.delaware.gov\/diaa\/sport_championships\/winter_sports\/individual_wrestling\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DIAA Wrestling sport page. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Live meet results will be available on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trackwrestling.com\/TWHome.jsp?loadBalanced=true\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TrackWrestling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> throughout the championship and it will also be streamed on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfhsnetwork.com\/associations\/diaa\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NFHSNetwork.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tickets will be available for purchase through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gofan.co\/app\/school\/DIAA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">GoFan <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on February 21st and ticket prices are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Session One:\u00a0 $5.00<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Session Two:\u00a0 $6.00<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Session Three:\u00a0 $7.00<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No cash tickets will be sold onsite and all tickets must be purchased through<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gofan.co\/app\/school\/DIAA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> GoFan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><b>2022 DIAA Basketball Championships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be hosted by the higher seeded team through the quarterfinals.\u00a0 The Boys and Girls semifinals and finals will return to the University of Delaware for the first time since 2019.\u00a0 The 2020 championship was not played due to the COVID-19 health pandemic and the 2021 basketball championships were hosted at Dover High School.\u00a0 Both the DIAA boys basketball committee and the DIAA girls basketball committee will meet on Friday, February 25th to seed each 24 team tournament.\u00a0 Tickets will be available for purchase through <a href=\"https:\/\/gofan.co\/app\/school\/DIAA\">GoFan <\/a>after the seeding meetings and more information will be available once the brackets are released.\u00a0 The DIAA Boys and Girls Basketball championship dates are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tuesday, March 1 &#8211;
