DIAA Board of Directors Approves New Division Realignment Model Beginning in 2027\u20132028<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Dover, DE \u2013 June 23, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Board of Directors has approved a new division realignment plan that will take effect beginning with the 2027\u20132028 school year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Approved at the Board of Directors\u2019s June 11 meeting, the new model is the result of an extensive review conducted by the DIAA Competition Committee, with input from member schools and educational leaders across the state. The realignment represents a significant step forward in DIAA\u2019s ongoing commitment to providing equitable and meaningful competitive opportunities for Delaware student-athletes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The approved model establishes a more consistent championship structure across sports, expands participation opportunities, utilizes objective criteria for division placement, and creates a formal process for evaluating division classifications.<\/span><\/p>\n

The DIAA Competition Committee\u2019s State Tournament Guidelines outline the approved division alignment structure, tournament qualification criteria, and the methodology used to determine school and sport classifications.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis represents an important milestone in DIAA\u2019s ongoing efforts to ensure our championship structures best serve Delaware student-athletes and member schools,\u201d said David L. Baylor, DIAA Executive Director. \u201cThe dedication of the Competition Committee and the valuable feedback provided by schools throughout this process helped create a model that promotes competitive balance, consistency, and increased opportunities for participation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The approved school and sport division alignments, along with the Competition Committee\u2019s State Tournament Guidelines Report, are available on the DIAA website.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

DIAA remains committed to continually evaluating its programs and championship structures to ensure a fair, meaningful, and positive interscholastic athletic experience for student-athletes across Delaware.<\/span><\/p>\n
