DIAA Board of Directors’ August Monthly Meeting Update

Updates from August 12, 2021 Meeting 

(Dover, DE) August 13, 2021 – The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Board of Directors met yesterday and topics of discussion included Governor Carney’s recent announcement of a mask requirement indoors and its impact on DIAA interscholastic athletics.

On Tuesday, Governor Carney announced that masks will be required in K-12 schools.  Effective Monday, August 16, 2021, masks are required for student athletes, administrators, coaches, officials, and spectators at all interscholastic athletic activities that are held indoors, including volleyball practices and matches.  Member schools should continue to follow COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies and guidance put forth by the Delaware Division of Department of Public Health.  With new information coming out everyday regarding the COVID-19 health pandemic, the DIAA Board of Directors will reconvene next Thursday, August 19 to discuss adopting an emergency regulation and COVID-19 health and safety requirements for the DIAA 2021-2022 sports seasons.
