Nomination Statement
Maria Gutierrez-Carcamo, daughter of Osman Gutierrez Chicas and Yolany Carcamo Gutierrez, is a dedicated and charismatic student leader. She has earned a 4.63 GPA while balancing athletics, extracurricular involvement and volunteer service. An International Baccalaureate and Academic Challenge student, Maria serves as senior drum major of the marching band and leads multiple organizations, including FFA, National Honor Society, Philosophy Club, and Tri-M National Honor Society. She volunteers as a teacher assistant at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and coaches at the River Recreational Soccer Club. Maria plans to study pre-law at the University of Notre Dame to become an immigration attorney.
“My parents have always reminded me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. They’ve sacrificed their own dreams for mine and have taught me about God’s everlasting presence in my life. They have shown me what true strength and faith look like. Because of their sacrifices, I will be able to continue my academic journey towards immigration law at the University of Notre Dame, working to give a voice to those who have had theirs taken.”
