Nomination Statement
Daughter of Margarita Lagunas Aranda and Rolando Benavides Jimenez, Ashly Benavides Lagunas is the epitome of a student leader. Ashly is ranked second in her class with a 4.7417 cumulative GPA. Ashly has consistently enrolled in the most rigorous coursework the school has to offer, as well as a participant in the Academic Challenge Program. Upon graduating, Ashly will have completed 16 Dual Enrollment courses and five Advanced Placement courses. After graduation, Ashly will be pursuing a degree in computer engineering.
“As I have grown up, my parents have motivated me to be persistent in the face of adversity. Growing from a student who struggled with English to one who now challenges myself academically, I've always been encouraged by my parents to be hard working. Their sacrifices have shown me that challenges are not roadblocks but stepping stones to success. They've also shown me to be optimistic. A positive mindset in life and the face of adversity are crucial for progression.”
