Nomination Statement
Russell Affum is the son of Manfred and Gertrude Affum. Russell describes himself as inquisitive, resilient, and hardworking. Those traits show in his dedication to his studies and volunteering outside of school. Russell has been an active member in National Honor Society, Key Club, and HOSA while taking the top academic classes at Delmar High School. In college, Russell plans to study biology as he is interested in the topic and doing lab research.
“I aspire to bridge the gap in medicine and support the underrepresented and those in poverty. Given the struggles these vulnerable people experience with healthcare, I want to contribute to solutions, including figuring out cures for under-targeted diseases, such as sickle cell anemia, to improve their lives. My parents support my plans and constantly remind me of the benefits of hard work. This continuous encouragement has been essential in my quest to improve healthcare outcomes and provide more equitable solutions.”
