Nomination Statement
Cathy Zhao, daughter of Jia Yu and Dezhi Zhao, is passionate about computer science and classical music. As a member of the TSA club, she has placed at the state level and competed nationally. Cathy serves her school's music program as the treasurer of the Tri-M Honor Society chapter and has had the honor of being selected to perform in the interstate All-Eastern Orchestra. Outside of school, she has been a volunteer teacher's assistant at the Chinese School of Delaware for two years. Cathy plans to pursue a degree in computer science and a minor in instrumental music in college.
“I have always been interested in math and arts because of their shared beauty. Coding with my dad to solve engaging logic puzzles inspired my interest in computer science. Through engineering courses, I found artistry in computer-aided design. Computer science appeals to me because it intertwines math and engineering in an impactful way. I am excited to explore the endless possibilities created by this field and hope to creatively contribute to innovative problem-solving in the future.”
