Nomination Statement
Daughter of Chingwah Chan and Jing Hua Yang of Selbyville, Vicky is an outstanding student who works diligently in and out of the classroom to be successful. She is ranked first in her class and has a grade point average of 4.57. Vicky is a well-rounded student who is involved in various clubs and organizations, which include being the vice president of the Leo Club, president of the Business Professionals of America and member of the Math League and the National Honor Society. She plans to attend the University of Delaware to pursue a degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering.
“For some time, I feared ambition – seeing it as the root of failure and heartbreak. The possibility of failure never made me apprehensive, rather I was repelled by the potential sympathetic reactions to my defeats. Thankfully, success has shown me that ambition, and above all – self-satisfaction, is the root of every accomplishment. I now admire the power of ambition’s duality. Its vigor motivates me to strive toward my desires and its determination also pushes me away from failure.”
